A poem about trans joy. Made in celebration of Trans Joy Week.

Trans Joy:
It’s the second take in the mirror with stumbling feet at 7am -
my vision still blurry but I notice the shadow on my face getting darker,
my shoulders getting broader..
my chest becoming the perfect home for my heart to beat in.
It’s warm.

It’s in the corner of my eye walking down the street -
my fingers fidgeting with anxiety until I notice a sticker bombed bollard, 
our flag in the window of a local pub..
the lovers kissing on the grass, one with a “T4T” badge and the other 
with his exposed binder to match.
It’s gentle.

It’s the unexpected moments,
the ones that catch you off guard.
The things that remind you, when the hope feels too hard:

that trans joy is not only possible;

It’s 
inexplicably 
powerful.
